Hi All,

My name is Toven Simonsen and I received an internship from the YMCA in Edmonton Alberta. I go to the Sauder School of business in Vancouver. I am in the Strategic Management stream there and have finished a year of study.

The YMCA seems like an interesting role. My position is to create marketing communications for the summer. So far I have been able to develop a web log, input information into a poster design that will go out to the media, and other smaller jobs. I think the position will be an interesting change for me since in my former career I was an accountant.

The YMCA is an interesting organization in itself. Before coming here, all that I knew of it was the exercise facilities. They have a lot more than that, including a building that helps to teach under privileged children, and housing that helps people have a place to live who would otherwise be out in the street. My previous jobs have all been in big business, so its interesting to see the struggles and challenges of working in a not for profit organization.
