Hi everyone,

As a CEI intern in the summer of 2002, I worked at the Troubadour Institute on Mayne Island, B.C. This non-profit institution was founded by the children’s singer, Raffi and its mission is to promote a society that honors children. As an intern, I performed several important tasks and gained important insights as to a child’s physical, mental and environmental heath. I attended and served as a group leader for the United Nations Children’s Conference on the Environment. This conference united children from all over the world to discuss and implement solutions to global environmental issues.

Secondly, I created a database of pre-schools from around Canada in order to fulfill the institute’s goal of awarding a grant of $10,000 for the building of a pesticide-free and environmentally friendly playground. Finally, I planned and attended a children’s environmental day camp for the children of Mayne Island. The camp emphasized environmental learning and encouraged children to appreciate and explore the natural habitats of the island.

This internship proved to be very rewarding as it exposed me to a non-profit organization with a dedicated purpose. I am glad that I had the opportunity to pursue a CEI internship - it was a valuable experience that added a great deal of dimension to my management degree.

Thanks,
Safiya
