Hi everybody,
I am glad to be given the opportunity to work with MCIS this summer thanks to CEI. I think we are a great match. My experience in the not-for-profit sector (pro-bono legal clinic), in the language services industry (full-service language agency), and the completion of my first year of MBA studies (Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto) can be a big help for MCIS.
MCIS's historical mission is to provide free interpreting services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. This mission has expanded since then and MCIS has experienced some colossal growth. Unfortunately the structure did not change with the times and there is no common sense of direction among staff, the executive director and the board of directors.
This is where I come in as the strategy planner. I am evaluating three main areas: strategy, organizational structure, and business development. My focus is on solutions that can be implemented, as opposed to writing up a grand business plan that you can frame and hang up on the wall. We will invigorate the board of directors and staff and ensure MCIS's long-term viability. The introduction of risk management will ensure active protection from exposure to government/funder benevolence, negligence in service provision, competition, information technology and other financial and regulatory risk. This period of transition will alleviate problems with stress and role ambiguity. A transparent process with frequent updates and involvement will make the transition successful.
Sincerely,
Peer Flach
