Interns in Action

SUMMER INTERNSHIP 2002

  Melissa Watanable
Schulich, MBA student

Hi,

I was a "strategic planning intern" with Evergreen, a national environmental NFPO with a mandate to bring nature back to cities (i.e., urban naturalization). I worked with management staff in developing and writing Evergreen's Fiscal 2003 Operating Plan, and in the over-arching area of organizational development (which included assessing and redesigning the organizational structure of Evergreen, researching and developing an annual 360-Feedback process, coordinating organizational planning and development sessions, and researching compensation and benefits practices).

The internship was a valuable learning opportunity for me -- I gained relevant work experience in a NFPO, applied the skills and knowledge that I had learned in my MBA program in a real-life setting, and discovered that my professional interests lie in organizational behaviour.  Moreover, the experience and skills that I developed during the internship are transferable to future opportunities (for example, developing and implementing the 360 Feedback process at Evergreen, was really a "management of change" exercise).

Thanks, CEI, for helping me gain work experience!

Cheers, Melissa
