Greetings from Nepal! This
is Kamal and I am currently the IT Manager at IDS Nepal in Kathmandu.
Integrated Development Society-Nepal is a small
group of dedicated engineers and social scientists who work tirelessly
to bring clean drinking water and basic sanitation to the rural
poor of Nepal. In my role as IT manager I am setting up processes
to make their fine work more efficient.
Over the summer of 2004 I will be reviewing their
practices and implementing strategic changes to their website to
enable it to share documents with other water and sanitation agencies
in this part of the world. I have also implemented an application
that allows the agency to build models and analyze metrics from
their field research in a more timely fashion. The lifeblood of
development work in Nepal revolves around proposal writing and requests
for funding.
As my time here comes to an end in August I will
have hoped to have worked on at least one proposal for funding and
have helped in a win for IDS- Nepal. Even though the political situation
in Nepal is tenuous I will make every effort to make at least one
visit to a field office outside of the Kathmandu valley.
Nepal is a beautiful country and the people of
Nepal are very welcoming. I know my time here will be a rewarding
experience and I am glad I was picked for this exciting opportunity.
