Hello all, This
summer I am working for a Calgary based gas exploration company
called Trident Exploration, which specializes in the discovery and
development of natural gas from coal, or coalbed methane.
My current role at Trident is working as a business
development summer student in the Community Engagement and Social
Responsibility group. Even though I am working for a “for-profit”
company it feels like I am working for an NGO, as Trident genuinely
cares about the well being and development of the communities where
it operates. Trident believes that the key to corporate success
is by developing long lasting meaningful relationships with the
communities where it operates and it does this by actively engaging
communities using a unique Assets Based Community Development model.
This model basically focuses on nurturing and developing individual
and community talents rather than focusing on problems and needs.
I am currently involved in several different communities and have
several different projects I am working on, some of which include:
performing a feasibility study for a community that wants to open
up an integrated art center, developing a strategic marketing plan
for a community developed art/history book depicting the beauty
of the Klondike Trail, performing a feasibility study for a community
that wants to turn a recently shut down hospital into a hotel.
Trident’s dedication to community development
is astonishing; the people I work with are fun, energetic and passionate
about their work. This job is not without its perks too, as every
2 weeks I get to fly out to all the different communities we are
working within and meet one on one to discuss the projects I am
helping out with.
I hope all of your internships are as fun and
rewarding as mine.
Regards,
Jeremiah Lindstrom
