Hi,

My name is Conrad Tien, and I have just finished my first year at Rotman School of Management.  Through the help of CEI, I have found a role working for Framework Foundation over the summer.  Framework is a charity organization that deals primarily with volunteer engagement in the communities in Calgary and Toronto.

Framework Foundation currently puts on an event called the Timeraiser, which acts as a meeting place for socially minded citizens, and agencies looking for volunteers.  The Timeraiser is a silent art auction, with a twist.  Instead of bidding dollars, participants are asked to bid volunteer hours to fulfill throughout the year.  Part silent art auction, part volunteer fair, and part night on the town; the Timeraiser acts as a catalyst bringing people to causes and causes to people.

I have been hired at Framework to help with their strategy going forward, determining how to best acquire resources for their future growth as the Timeraiser program expands nationwide.   I will be researching and developing a methodology to quantify the “civic footprint” of our target audience (individuals in their 20s and 30s) as well as developing the strategy going forward that will support our 2008 prospectus.

Having worked 3 weeks at Framework so far, I can say that I have not had another experience which required me to wear so many hats.  From research, to finance, to strategic planning, everyday there is an opportunity to utilize any and all skills that I developed in my previous work and academic experiences.

It looks like this summer will be one for the ages.  I hope to meet all of you soon, and hope everyone is enjoying their placements as much as I am.
