Interns in Action

SUMMER INTERNSHIP 2002

Charles Faubert
McGill, MBA student

Hi everyone,

My name is Charles Faubert. My CEI internship for the summer of 2002 was with CEI itself, where I worked as Strategic Coordinator. Broadly, this meant that I was responsible for developing a sustainable business/process model for CEI over the next several years. This work was part strategy and part marketing. With the guidance of Kariann & Eric and with the generous support of the McGill Management Career Centre (MMCC), the following projects were initiated in order to achieve that broad objective:

  • MMCC: Evaluation of the MMCC summer recruiting and internship programs to establish the best way to integrate CEI into them, and set up the program for 2002-2003.
  • New Model: Elaborate these findings into a model that is transferable to business school Career Centres across Canada.
  • Raise Awareness: Ensure that all business school Career Centres in Canada are aware of the program and that they know how to participate.
  • Career & Networking Event:Initiate events in different parts of the country.
  • Website: Update the CEI website so that it reflects the new model and serves as an improved information resource.
  • Best Practices: Determine best practices of the Career Centres of schools featured in the Aspen Institute’s report Beyond Grey Pinstripes.
  • New Participant Organizations: Map and contact organizations that fit the CEI profile as potential participants, being sure to include for-profit enterprises.
  • Timeline: Establish the annual timeline for the entire CEI process.
  • Keep Kariann & Eric on their toes by asking them challenging questions about the direction and mission of CEI!

I believe that CEI provides a valuable service to the social sector and to business students, and I feel fortunate and proud to have helped to improve CEI. A grand opportunity exists to entrench social sector considerations in the basic processes of business school Career Centres and, by extension, to influence the curriculum content of business schools themselves. CEI’s leadership in this area is key, and I am optimistic about its potential for effective growth.

    Best,
    Charles
