Hello all!
It's been very interesting reading about the varous internship positions. I
hope you all enjoyed a brief respite after exams before jumping straight in
to work! I am Anushka Perera from the Sauder School of Business and I was
hired to work for the Coast Foundation in Vancouver BC. Coast is a mental
health service provider and is the only one of its kind in British Columbia.
Their mandate is to provide care and security to those with mental health
illnessess and to make them as functional as possible. Coast is in the
health services sector and its stakeholders include health authorities,
provincial and government, funding agencies, health care workers and above
all mental health patients.
Coast has about 250 employees and 30 locations that provide housing,
recovery programs for addictions, employment and counselling. It is a large
organization! Coast is going through accreditation under the Canadian
Council of Health Services Accreditation (CCHSA) and is the first of its
kind to go through accreditation. The accreditation process is a rigorous
process and if successful, would give Coast credibility as a well
functioning mental health service provider. I have been hired to help see
them through the final stages of a 3 year long process that gets them ready
for the certification. I am very happy to be working for Coast. It's been
just over a week since I started working for Coast and though it's too early
to comment on work, I have learned a great deal about accreditation which
has helped me to apply business skills to analyse, quantify and measure the
success of Coast as an organization.
