Hi all,

My name is Anne Castonguay, I'm an MBA candidate from the University of New Brunswick. I completed the first year of my program this spring. I received an internship with the Ecology Action Centre (EAC) in Halifax, NS for the summer.

"The Ecology Action Centre is Nova Scotia's largest and most active environmental organization. We've been working to protect Nova Scotia's land, water and environment since 1971." The EAC tackles the most current environmental issues concerning Nova Scotia: the issues range from costal, marine, energy, to food action, transportation and more. The EAC is a grassroots organization and functions as such.

I have been hired to continue work that began last summer surrounding sustainable fisheries and seafood. The issue concerns the promotion of hook and line fisheries as opposed to thrawling or dragging, a fishing practice considered harmful to the fish stock and their habitat. We plan to create a strategic marketing plan to promote the more sustainable fishing practice of hook and line. The endeavour includes visits with chefs and restaurant owners, visting fish processing plants and perhaps even a visit for a day with a fisherman practicing hook and line fisheries. The hands on approach used by EAC is a fantastic compliment to a year packed with academic work.

I am enjoying my time with EAC and am anticipating a wonderful summer. I wish you all the best with your work as well. A photograph of myself will follow soon,

Thank you,
Best Regards,

Anne Castonguay
